World Environment Day (WED) Festival is on again, and this year it’s all about the power of choice! Now in its 38th year WED Festival 2017 is about giving you an outlet to contribute to the positive change taking place all around us. The Festival provides the perfect platform to share ideas and learn something new in a fun and festive atmosphere for the whole family to enjoy!
SCEC have been running this free event since the late 70’s, and are so thrilled to see the popularity of this grassroots event grow even stronger!

This year WED Festival hosts an array of exciting activities and entertainment to sink your teeth into. We’ve got local legends OKA headlining the event, with Byron Bay dance outfit Sapote laying down some high energy afternoon beats! We’ve also got The Andrea Kirwin Band bringing you their cruisy island jazz tunes, one-man-band Dan Horne, boot-stomping bluegrass band The Strangest Dreamers, and young upcoming sensation Sam Hay performing a captivating live set.

Aside from the music and other entertaining performances, we’re bringing back all of the WED Festival favourites – like the children’s forest, speakers tent, craft workshops, cultural performances, Tesla car display, wildlife shows, live street murals, a wide selection of wholesome local food, the Chai Tent, Stone and Wood Fundraiser Jetty Bar, and the Inaugural SCCAN Renewables Expo!!
The Renewables Expo, hosted by local group Sunshine Coast Climate Action Now (SCCAN) will showcase the cleanest and greenest innovations around! The children’s forest will have the little ones preoccupied for hours on end, with more interesting and educational craft activities than you can poke a stick at!
WED Festival 2017 is a free not-for-profit, family-friendly fun event that invites everyone from all walks of life to celebrate everything we love about the Sunshine Coast’s natural environment. It's also a chance to thank the hardworking folk across the region working to keep our coast just the way we like it - beautiful!
